Name: Tirael (usually Brother Tirael)
Age: 14 seasons (equivalent to our 14 years)
Gender: Male
Species: Otter
Physical Appearance: Slim, not necessarily the largest or strongest specimen in the world, but not fat or weak. He has chocolate-colored fur, with a creamy underbelly. Usually wears a novice's light-green habit while inside the Abbey. If he travels, he generally dons a green tunic and dark traveling cloak. Generally looks thoughtful, even a bit distant, and always seems to be a little isolated, even in a crowd.
Personality: Tirael has trouble socializing, and can rarely initiates conversations on his own. When talked to, he is polite, and generally seems to focus on not bothering the person he's talking to. On occasion, his unusual sense of humor will come out; unfortunately, he isn't the funniest person, and his humor is regarded with confusion. This leads him to retreat back into solitude.
Nobody is really sure why he is like this; he came to the abbey when he was seven, and has never opened up about what happened. When he arrived, he was dirty, tired, sick, and had a wound in his left footpaw; after healing, he was grateful, but quiet. That has lasted to this day.
"What? Oh, no, I'm not sad...just thinking."
Tirael's isolation leads him to spend much of his time reading; he can read quickly, taking everything in, and he prides himself in this. This has led him to become quite knowledgeable about plants and nature, and so he usually works in some job involving this. His extensive reading also causes him to speak with unusually proper English.
His playful side most often comes out when he is around Dibbuns, especially ones he is closest to. This is the time when it is most likely to see him smile, and even laugh; when asked, he says that it's the innocent fun that makes him so happy.
Weapons and Personal Items: Tirael is always in the middle of reading some tome or book. When he is working, he will usually have some sort of plant or herb with him. He is intensely nonviolent, and never trained in the use of weaponry. However, if the Abbey is in danger, he can use a spear, staff, or bow.
Have you read the rules: Of course. Taggle Tweedles Twolops.
Job: Tirael works with plants, and so will often be found either in the orchard or the infirmary. He does such things as tending to herbs, helping when a plant is in some sort of problem, or preparing medicines. He occasionally experiments with new medicinal compounds, usually with some degree of success.
Weaknesses/Strengths: Tirael is very loyal, probably due to his gratitude to the Redwallers. He rarely gets into conflict with others, choosing instead to "agree to disagree" at the worst. As mentioned above, he is very inept at starting conversation or at keeping one going. He is easily hurt, and is a little paranoid about whether others really like him. He doesn't realize how much they might actually like him, and so is in a perpetual state of slight anxiety. He isn't a fighter, either, and is a bit of a liability in certain combat situations. However, he is dedicated to the Abbey, and is capable of overcoming his fears in times when Redwall is in desperate need.
History: Tirael came to the Abbey when he was about seven years old. He was sick, wounded, and tired, and spent two weeks unconscious in the infirmary before recovering. He has yet to divulge any details of his life before he arrived, and some wonder if he even remembers. After his life was saved, he became very loyal and dedicated to the Redwallers, whom he still tries to serve in every aspect that he can. He shifted through the kitchens, the belltower, and the library before he finally discovered his passion for the natural sciences, and he devoted himself to this with the most force anyone had ever seen from him. He has grown more comfortable with the Abbeydwellers, whom he refers to as "his great family". Though he was invited to join a tribe of otters living in Mossflower, he declined, stating he already had a home. Since then, his life has remained generally the same.
Relationships: Tirael can't be associated with anybody in specific; he floats among the Redwallers, and has a loose friendship with most of them. He doesn't know if anybody has formed a closer bond with him, but he fervently hopes for it. He is innately friendly to those around him, though when he encounters evil, he becomes curt, and walks away a little angry. It is in situations like this when his loyalty to Redwall becomes most apparent.
Other: Only fights in extreme cases, and will be peaceful most of the time. He will try to give advice when he can, though he rarely becomes that confident in conversation.
