A small group of otters, three to be exact, stroled around, deep in the MossFlower woods. One, the only female, in a long flowing habbit, turned to one of the two males. "Soubi, are you sure we're going in the right direction?" "Not really Mother Abbess. The map said to go there but I think we lost the trail durring that storm." The other male took the map and looked at it. "We need to go this way." "How do you know?" "I was a travelar not to long ago, remember? I've been to this 'Marshank' before. We go this way."

Unbeknownst to the travellers, certain characters were watching them. They would continue through the brush, then hear ever so faintly, the rustling of leaves, and the parting of shrubbery.

One of the males, the younger looking one looked up. "What was that." "What was what, Rakko?" Said the Abbess, stopping and looking at him. "Nothing...I thought I heared somthing. Must've been the wind." Soubi looked at him doubtfully but continued to walk.

The noises stopped, and for a moment the company was standing in a small, open glade with waist-high grasses. The only sound that could be heard is two of the otters chatting. Then, out of nowhere, they were surrounded by three rats, two stoats, and a fox. They were hemmed in on all sides in the clearing. Then, they charged, yelling and cursing at the travellers.
Suddenly, a figure dropped down out of a tree a few paces behind the fox. He threw what appeared to be a dagger, but a longer one of sorts, hitting the fox square in the back. He let out a bloodcurdling cry and fell to the ground near the edge of the clearing. The other vermin stared at their slain leader, and for a moment, all was silent. The figure Looked around at the motley crew. "Get out of here! Before I change my mind!" he yelled at the vermin. The stoats and two rats ran, one staying behind. The rat yelled and charged with a spear aimed at the figure's chest. when The rat almost ran the figure through, he dodged the spear, grabbed the shaft, and pulled the rat in the direction he was moving. The figure then stabbed down into the rat's back with another such long dagger. the rat charged a few more feet, carried by the momentum, then came to rest at the Abbess' feet.

Serval shrieked as the vermin came out of the trees. Rakko crouched into a battle position but saw it was eaisily handled by the squirell. He stodd and watched, impressed by the warrior's tactics. He watched, then bent down to pull out the long dagger from the foxes back. He handed it back and held out his paw. "Thanks for the help there, matie!"

The squirrel came out of the treeline and accepted the dagger, wiping the blood off on the grass. "Yeah, well, I've been following 'em for 2 days. Sooner or later, I woulda caught up with 'em." He looked around at the clearing-turned-battlefield, and strode over to the rat.

The abbess shrunk back. "Such evil." She shook her head. Soubi patted her shoulder and rakko bent beside the fox. He searched the body for anything that might say anything about him but didn't find mutch. He stood and addressed the squirrel. "Thanks again. Do you know how to get to Marshank? The Mother Abbess and our Recorder here wishes to look around to see if there is anything of importaintce."

The squirrel took out the dagger out of the corpse and wiped it off on the grass again. "Well, sorry miss, but it had to be done. Out here, there's no rules. These beasts take advantage of that." he gestured toward the corpse. "and yes, I know this country pretty well. Heh, I should, considering I was raised here, but I don't see what you'd want with Marshank. Place's just an old pile of rubble. A larger gang camps out there. Oh, sorry, I forgot to introduce myself. I am Silas Hawkeye. and who might you be? I've never really seen goodbeasts since..." He seemed to stop in midsentence. He then put his daggers back into hidden arm-sheaths up his sleeves. "Well, I can lead ya anyway."

"I am Rakko Streamwater and this is our Mother Abbess Serval and our Recorder, Soubi. We come from Redwall Abbey, on the frindges of the woods. I have not seen ye about before. These two wish to look through the rubble and see if there is anything of importance to the history of the place, and how it as used in the past. You say there is another horde there? Of about how many?"

"Wait... Abbess? From Redwall Abbey? You must be here for Martin the warrior's history. I would advise we not journey to such a place, now populated by vermin. However, I happen to have something for you. Follow me." As they walked through the forest, Silas spoke to Rakko.
"Well the horde you refer to is just a large band of pirates. they were left here because my people destroyed their ship. But, alone, I can not face them."

Rakko stepped forward to walk along side their new ally. "Soubi seems to think this place will tell us much of our warriors history. Do ye think the two of us could take them? We have afew warriors back at the Abbey that could help. Skipper, im sure, would love to lend a help."
The Abbess was curious but said nothing as the two warriors talked. instaid, she spoke quietly to Soubi.

"Well, if they're up to it we could drive them out, but more'd come. I've seen it before. I think that there's more than a captain controlling these pirates. This group in paticular ransacked my village before we could burn their ship." Here his voice took on a hateful note.

"We only need to search for a short time. A few days at most, but we should probably get back to the Abbey soon." He looked around. "We're probably a good days march from the Abbey. It might take some time to get Skipp but it can be done. About how may, did ye say there where?"

"Last time I took a trip in their direction I saw twoscore and twelve, All of 'em were gabbin' about some sort of parchment the other day. I wouldn't take on near threescore vermin, by myself anyway. Well, if you're looking for history, I happen to have a few tomes from my village before it was ransacked. They certainly have something on your warrior, Martin. He's the one who freed these lands from a warlord named Badrang." Silas chuckled. "Guess those books won't go to waste after all."
((Moving story to Marshank area.))
